One-Day Intensive Awareness Programme on “Balanced use of Fertilizer and Soil health management” organised at Maklang Makha Leikai, Imphal West, Manipur under MGMG

        A one-day awareness programme on “Balanced Use of Fertilizer and Soil Health Management” under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) initiative was organised on 20th May 2026 at Maklang Makha Leikai by a team of scientists from ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal. The programme was conducted by Dr. E. Lamalakshmi Devi, Senior Scientist (GPB), Dr. Chongtham Tania, Senior Scientist (Horticulture), and Dr. L Chanu Langlentombi, Scientist (Agroforestry) with the objective of creating awareness among farmers on balanced fertilizer application and sustainable soil health management practices.
        During the programme, the team emphasized the importance of applying the right and judicious proportions of essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and micronutrients based on soil health test recommendations, instead of over-application or under-application of fertilizers. The scientists also highlighted the benefits of integrating chemical fertilizers with organic manures, biofertilizers, and green manuring, along with the adoption of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices for restoration of soil organic matter and sustainable crop production. Officials from the State Agriculture Department, Manipur led by Mrs. Hemabati Devi, District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West also graced the programme.
        A total of 33 women farmers participated in the awareness programme. During the event, agricultural inputs such as ladyfinger and cucumber seeds were distributed among the participating farmers.
